RIO VISTA, CALIFORNIA.

I would like to thank the 2007 Spring “TEAM ORANGE”!

JUDGES:  Jack Scullion, Nick Nickol, Dom Pettinato and Leif Lendrop. MARSHALL: Mike Hewett

THE BIRD PLANTERS in the Junior Field: Dave Wickens, Frank Senick and John Brennan. THE OFFICE STAFF EXTRODIARE…Debbie and Rob Lewis. Without Debbie, yours truly doesn’t function!  Rob was the “man at large”. THE DEAD EYE GUNNERS: “If it flies, it dies” Bernie Lara, Gary Bonnini and  my sweetheart, Alan Brann. BREAKFAST: Kary and Dave Jorgensen for providing the Entenmann’s goodies. Lunch burgers were furnished by Hastings. Dinner was fun and relaxing at Marias Mexican Restaurant in Dixon. To the Staff at Hastings Island: Dannielle Earl, General Manager, Miguel, the Field Supervisor, and Sue and John, in the office, you always give us a wonderful venue and good birds to hold our events! I want to thank Debbie and Rob Lewis for their support. Kathy Bodutch, thank you for helping me clean up and get things in order for the next event.

The California Weather Fairy gave us a dry weekend with plenty of breeze on Sunday for good scenting conditions and some running birds.

We ran a total of 96 dogs for the weekend. Our entries comprised Shorthairs, Wirehairs, Vizsulas, Weimaraners, Irish, English and Red & White Setters, Brittanys, Spinones and a Griffon.

On Saturday, we had two qualifiers from five Masters and our high scoring dog was Astro (Brit) in Master with a 9.6 average. Astro was run by Mark Nunez. We ran eleven Seniors and had three qualifiers. The star was Covey (Viz) with an 8.6 run by Steve Artis. We had thirty-three Juniors with club member, Jerry Roper taking the high score honors with his GSP, Dot with a 9.5 average.

On Sunday, we had two qualifiers from four dogs at the Master level. The high score cam from Treff (GWP) with 9.75 with thrilled owner, Sharon Jahn. Treff qualified both days for his first two legs. We had nine Seniors with only one qualifier, Vinia (GSP) with 7.2 owned by club member Elaine Last and handled by Steve Klassen. Vinia qualified both days and finished her title. Congratulations to Elaine and Jerry and Steve. Our thirty four Juniors came in with a tie of perfect scores for Dante (Spin) owned by Barbara Shock and John Martin from Oregon and a new to the sport couple from GSPC of Nevada, Tim and Shelly Ricketts with their GSP, Avery.

We had our first ever Junior Handler exhibitor, Austin Erlandson, age 14 from Oregon. He and his dad’s dog Max ran in Master. He missed qualifying on Saturday but made up for it on Sunday with a 9.1 average. Good going to both Austin and his dad, Del and Max.

All of the training raffle items came from Dogs Unlimited. I want to thank them for their generosity. They can be found at dogsunlimited.com. They are located in Colorado. Talk to Alan, the owner! Thanks also to Hastings for donating a two-bird shoot and three rounds of trap.

Be safe and happy enjoying your families and dogs.
